Brief Introduction to The Zone
Hohhot Economic and Technological Development Zone is a state-level economic and technological development zone approved by the State Council in July,2000. It combined by the former Hohhot Ruyi development zone and Jinchuan development zone, two of Autonomous Region level. Now, it is one of the 49 state-level economic and technological development zones as well as the only state-level one existing in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
After 13 years of building and developing, the zone has nurtured a group of enterprises, which have gained fame home and abroad. As more and more projects completed and investment made, the development zone is witnessing a rapid and sustaining growth in its economy, with the GDP developing at an average rate of over 60 percent. The total supply and demand in the development zone accounts for more than one third of that in Hohhot. Additionally, for several consecutive years, the Development zone ranked high in west China in the "Nation-wide Evaluation on the Comprehensive Developing Environment of the State-level Economic and Technological Development Zones". It has developed into one of the economic dynamos in Hohhot, in the whole Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and even in the entire west China.
Taking advantage of the historical opportunity of Developing the West, Hohhot Economic and Technological Development Zone faithfully follows the guiding principle put forward by the State Council. Such a principle features "Centering on the three focal points, striving for two goals and facilitating one development". In other words, in the first place the principle suggests that the focus should be laid upon the sensible take-in and utilization of the investment, and upon the promotion of a modernized manufacturing industry as well as upon the optimization of the export composition. Then it requires that any development zone should strive for developing the industries concerning new and advanced technologies and developing the service industry with high additional value. Finally, the principle attempts to facilitate the transformation of the state-level economic and technological development zones into multi-function comprehensive industry zones. Besides sticking to the general principle mentioned above, Hohhot Economic and Technological Development Zone makes great efforts to promote its development itself with industries of keen edge, industries with unique feature, and significant industrial projects. It believes that in order to gain prosperity it must give priority to the utilization of science and technology and only when the ever-growing demand for professionals and talents is satisfied can it expect tremendous and explosive growth. To fulfill the ultimate goal, five bases will have to be successfully constructed. Including: the dairy product manufacturing base, Information industry base of state-level, bio-pharmacology industry base of state level, exports products processing base of state-level, a base of groups of small medium-sized enterprises industries concerning new and advanced technologies in the Autonomous Region and one that also serves as an enterprise-nurturing base.
